A generic model for camera based intelligent road crowd control

    Get PDF
Traffic flow control is often a big problem in many big cities in the world, especially during the peak and off-peak hours. Researchers are trying to find the optimal solution to solve this daily problem. Often, the problem is caused by the poor traffic signal light control system. Improper placement of the signal light and timing is the main issue. The problem can be solved by proper time management for the traffic signal through the congested and often over crowded areas. This research proposes a model for intelligent traffic flow control by implementing camera based surveillance and feedback system. A series of cameras are set minimum three signals ahead from the target junction. The complete software system is developed to help integrating the multiple camera on road as feedback to the signal light control systems. Keywords: surveillance; traffic flow; network; vehicles

Scripting language design and the implementation test for PSO-GA hybridizations

    Get PDF
This paper introduces a new design of a set of scripting language constructs and the implementation test for the algorithms development. The design of the scripting language is presented in form of syntactic specification and Deterministic Finite Automaton  (DFA). Based on the several algorithms of PSO-GA hybrids that have been developed with the scripting language constructs, the Characters of Code (COC) are measured in order to test the easiness of the  programming language. The results show that across all algorithms, the scripting language is anticipated to enable easy programming which has been presented by the very less number of COC compared to the JAVA programming language. Furthermore, based on observation from repeated experiments, the optimization results of all the algorithms developed with the scripting language are shown to be very accurate within the scale of results generated by JAVA codes. Keywords: rapid algorithm; development; hybridization dynamic; parameterizations; scripting languag

Effect of poster and video intervention on the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) level of personal hygiene among food handlers in 24 hours Mamak restaurants in Sungai Petani, Kedah

This study assesses the knowledge, attitude and practice on personal hygiene among foodhandlers at 24 hours Mamak operation restaurants before and after poster and video intervention. A survey and observation checklist was conducted among 100 food handlers selected from Mamak restaurants. 77% of respondents were aware on personal hygiene during the pre-intervention and the percentage has slightly escalated to 100% after intervention. Similarly, the percentage of good personal hygiene practice was increase after the intervention (42% to 73% respectively). It was observed that there was no significant correlation between knowledge and practice (r= -0.082, p=0.415) similarly there was no significant correlation observed between knowledge and attitude (r= -0.009, p=0.930). The finding adds to the growing body of evidence on the effectiveness of poster and video intervention. Keywords: KAP; poster and video intervention; personal hygiene; food handlers; 24 hoursMamak restaurants

Vacuum fused deposition modelling system to improve tensile strength of 3D printed parts

    Get PDF
Functional parts require high a level of strength and the current Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) cannot be fully utilized as the end used parts. The poor mechanical strength is caused by the incomplete layer bonding during the printing process. In the printing process, the interlayer bonding is made too quick thus the layers are not fully fused together causing the reduced tensile strength. This paper presents a possible solution to this problem by incorporating vacuum technology in FDM system to improve tensile strength of 3D printed specimens. In this study, a desktop FDM machine was placed and operated inside a low pressure vacuum chamber. The results obtained show an improvement of 12.83 % of tensile strength compared to the standard specimen. This paper concludes that the low pressure environment is useful in reducing the heat loss due to convection of air, hence directly improves the specimen’s tensile strength. Keywords: additive manufacturing; fused deposition modelling; vacuum system; mechanical strength
